CommerceScout Partners with eMedius to Facilitate Design Engineers' eProcurement of Electronic Components

Seal Beach, Calif., and San Jose, Calif. - September 11, 2000 - CommerceScout, the leader, innovator, and pioneer in eMarketplace management, and eMedius, a developer of web-based enabling technologies that provide collaboration, communication and content, today announced their partnership to integrate the CommerceScout Network into eMedius' solution for design engineers at contract manufacturers.
Focused on the electronic components marketplace, the eMedius solution enables design engineers and cross-functional teams to use its VirtualDatabook rich parametric database to access real time information for optimal component selection. A transparent link to the CommerceScout Network, a conduit to multiple marketplaces, now complements the process by providing pricing and availability. The CommerceScout Network takes a request for a specific electronic component from the eMedius website and searches across a broad range of domestic and international suppliers and eMarketplaces for a match. It then performs a comparison for both price and availability and communicates the results to the eMedius customer, who can then determine the feasibility of using the component.
"Linking the CommerceScout Network with the eMedius solution gives design engineers added functionality by providing availability and pricing information," said Talmy Rauch, eMedius vice president of business development. "This rounds out a very powerful solution for design engineers and procurement staff, enabling them evaluate their options more efficiently."
"The eMedius/CommerceScout relationship is a perfect fit for both companies," said Diana Derebeew, vice president of strategic alliances at CommerceScout. "In addition to offering eMedius' design engineers access to price and availability, we plan to work together to extend our joint solution to real time procurement management. This would provide a more complete solution for the entire supply chain in the electronic components industry."
The two companies will preview their joint solution at the eLink 2000 Conference-hosted by Commerce One (Nasdaq:CMRC)-in Las Vegas, Sept. 18-20.
